Relevance of Helicobacter pylori dupA and OipA genotypes and development of gastric disease

چکیده
Helicobacter pylori infection is now accepted as the major cause of severe gastritis-associated diseases, including peptic ulcer and gastric cancer. In the current study, we decided to determine the dupA and OipA genotypes in H. pylori strains isolated from patients with gastrointestinal disorders and to evaluate whether these genes are associated with the severity of the gastroduodenal diseases. We obtained 100 H. pylori positive specimens from 296 patients by endoscopic biopsy. The prevalence of genotype was assessed by PCR and related to clinical histopathological parameters. The dupA and OipA positive strains had a prevalence of 39% and 57% respectively. In our cohort, there was no significant relationship between dupA genotype and peptic ulcer disease (P=0.98). However, there was a relationship between dupAstrains and gastric cancer (P=0.019). We were unable to identify association between OipA+ genotype and clinical outcome (P=0.145). The relation between dupA, and OipA, positive genotype as a single genotype and the development of cases to gastric cancer was statistically significant (P<0.001). According to the results, the presence of dupA gene can be considered as a marker for the gastric cancer; however, the OipA gene cannot be regarded for prediction of peptic ulcer and gastric cancer.

AIM The purpose of this investigation was to determine the oipA and dupA genes of Helicobacter pylori isolates from west of Iran; Chaharmahalo Bakhtiyari region and find their relationship with the severity of the gastroduodenal diseases. BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori is an organism responsible for many gastroduodenal diseases. Many studies suggest that genetic diversity in H . pylori virule...
متن کاملThe Helicobacter pylori duodenal ulcer promoting gene, dupA in China
BACKGROUND The prevalence of H. pylori is as high as 60-70% in Chinese population. Although duodenal ulcer and gastric cancer are both caused by H. pylori, they are at opposite ends of the spectrum and as such are considered mutually exclusive. Duodenal ulcer promoting (dupA) gene was reported to be associated with duodenal ulcer development. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalenc...
متن کاملA report on Allelic Variation in Helicobacter pylori dupA: A viewpoint
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the pivotal cause of chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer diseases (PUD) and gastric cancer. Morphologically, the bacterium is spiral, Gram-negative and microaerophilic which survives lifespan in the human stomach in case of weak antibiotic therapy. There is a major difference in the pattern of global prevalence of H. pylori infection based on different levels of u...

BACKGROUND/AIM The severity of disease outcome in dyspepsia has been attributed to Helicobacter pylori virulence genes. The aim of this study was to determine the distribution of H. pylori virulence genes (cagA, babA2, and dupA) and to determine whether or not there arises a significant correlation with clinical dyspepsia outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS H. pylori genotypes cagA, babA2, and du...

AIM Our aim was to determine the EPIYA-cagA Phosphorylation sites and dupA gene in H. pylori isolates among patients with upper gastrointestinal diseases. BACKGROUND Pathogenicity of the cagA-positive Helicobacter pylori is associated with EPIYA motifs and higher number of EPIYA-C segments is a risk factor of gastric cancer, while duodenal ulcer-promoting gene (dupA) is determined as a protec...
